Crores of people are taking a dip at the confluence of the Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. However, it is also true that people have to spend a lot to reach there. From the increase in the number of passengers to the first time in 106 years, the airport records in the holy city are usually breaking records in the holy city, from the increase in night flights for the first time and getting international flights in 93 years. As Mahakumbh is moving 2025 ahead, the cost of flights to Prayagraj is dramatically increasing. The development took place on 29 January before the Mauni Amavasya bath (royal bath).

According to the Times of India, travel websites can show the return ticket price from Chennai to Prayagraj on January 28 and 30. On these dates, a round-trip ticket from a nearby Kolkata costs more than Rs 35,000. The ticket from Mumbai to Prayagraj ranges from Rs 22,000 to Rs 60,000.

After a manner in the ticket prices during the Mahakumbh, which runs till 26 February, the government has directed the airlines to make more flights to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh and give relief in fare. The increase in fare is the result of demand-supply mismatch, and the government usually avoids controlling prices. However, the government has advised against arbitrary increase in fares.
Both the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation held high -level meetings with leading airlines including Indigo, Air India, SpiceJet and Akasa Air to be operated for Prayagraj and directed them to “rational” aerial fare. Airlines were also asked to add more capacity during the upcoming ‘bath’ days – 29 January and 3, 4, 12 and 26 February – to accommodate more passengers.
