Air quality in Delhi-NCR has again deteriorated. The air quality index i.e. AQI has reached “serious” level on January 29 after air quality declines. Now from Thursday, the Air Quality Management Commission (CAQM) has to re -implement Phase 3 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).
Delhi’s air quality index was recorded 276 on Tuesday 28 January, which rose to 365 levels on Thursday. During this period, the pollution level has reached the serious category due to haze and slow wind. Air quality has been recorded in Delhi NCR. AQI 317 was recorded in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, which is a “very poor” category. AQI 271 was recorded in Ghaziabad, AQI 279 in Faridabad, Haryana. AQI 310 was recorded in Gurugram which is a “very poor” category.
Delhi NCR is seeing air quality fluctuations. In view of the mild weather conditions in Delhi, people in Delhi and NCR have been urged to be alert to pollution levels and cold mornings and nights. The weather is changing from winter to mild temperatures, now the maximum temperature of the day is between 20 ° C to 24 ° C, while the night temperature is between 12 ° C to 14 ° C.
The cold is expected to decrease gradually in the coming days, but air quality in Delhi-NCR will remain a matter of concern. Under GRAP-3 measures, construction and demolition activities will be stopped, non-essential mining activities will be suspended, and non-electric, non-CNG and non-BS-VI diesel interstate buses will be banned. It has been suggested to close schools up to 5th grade in Delhi-NCR.
Additionally, a ban on BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheelers will be implemented, and admission of commercial vehicles in Delhi will be banned. The official notice also mentions that actions under Phase I, II and III will be monitored and reviewed to prevent further decline in air quality.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi-NCR may receive light rain in early February, which is expected to improve air quality and a slight drop in temperature, which will reduce the concern of early heat.
