Congress on Thursday said that Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat’s statement on true independence clearly shows that he does not believe in the Constitution. Senior party leader and former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel also claimed that Bhagwat had insulted the freedom movement.
Bhagwat had said on Monday that the date of Ramlala’s death anniversary in Ayodhya should be celebrated as ‘Pratishtha Dwadashi’ because the country, which had been facing enemy attacks for many centuries, got true independence on this day.
Referring to Bhagwat’s statement, Baghel told reporters, it is clear from his statement that he does not believe in the Constitution. He is insulting the freedom struggle. It is also clear from Mohan Bhagwat’s statement that people of BJP and RSS want to change the Constitution. He said that Rahul Gandhi’s statement on Indian State was misinterpreted by the people of BJP.
According to Baghel, it is clear in Article 12 of the Constitution that State means the government and its institutions. When asked about the alleged differences of opinion among the opposition India Alliance allies regarding ideology, the former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh said that the Congress is committed to its principles.
