President Murmu will attend the Shrimant Sankardev Award ceremony.

President Draupadi Murmu will attend a special ceremony to be held in Guwahati in April, at which this year’s Srimanta Sankardev Award will be presented. This award is given to eminent persons in the field of literature, art, culture and journalism.

Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma extended the invitation to the President on Saturday and he has accepted it. Sharma wrote on ‘X’, “I had the privilege of meeting Honorable President Draupadi Murmu ji. I am very grateful to the Honorable President for accepting our invitation to visit our State and confer the Srimanta Sankardev Award in April 2025. His valuable time and guidance is truly appreciated.”

The award is named after the Vaishnava saint and reformer Srimanta Sankardeva of Assam. The Government of Assam has been conferring the national level Srimanta Sankardev Award since 1986 to individuals who have achieved national and international fame in the fields of literature, art, culture, journalism etc.
