The US Supreme Court has rejected the revision petition filed against the extradition of Mumbai attack convict Tahawwur Rana to India. The court also approved his extradition to India.
Rana, a Canadian citizen of Pakistani origin, is wanted in connection with the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks and India was requesting his extradition. This was Rana’s last legal chance to avoid being extradited to India.
Earlier, he had lost legal battles in several federal courts, including the US Court of Appeals for the Northern Circuit in San Francisco. Rana had filed a review petition before the US Supreme Court on November 13.
On January 21, a day after Donald Trump was sworn in as US President, the Supreme Court rejected his appeal. The Supreme Court said, “The petition is dismissed.” Rana is currently detained at the ‘Metropolitan Detention Center’ in Los Angeles.
