Harpreet Kaur Babla of Bharatiya Janata Party won the Chandigarh Mayor election. Babla became the new mayor of the city by securing 19 votes. The victory came after cross-voting, which helped Babla ahead of the AAP-Congress alliance, which managed to get only 17 votes. Elections were held for the post of Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor in the meeting room of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. AAP and Congress contested the mayor as an alliance. While AAP contested for the post of Mayor, the Congress has fielded its candidates Jasbir Singh Bunty and Taruna Mehta for the post of Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor respectively. AAP fielded his councilor Prem Lata for the post of Mayor. The BJP had 16 councilors, while the Congress had 6 and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had 13 councilors. Apart from councilors in this election, Chandigarh MP Manish Tiwari was also given the right to vote as a nominated member of the Municipal Corporation.

SC appointed supervisor for election
The Supreme Court appointed Justice (Retd) Jayashree Thakur from the Punjab and Haryana High Court as an independent observer for the Chandigarh Mayor election. This was done in response to the previous controversies related to the election. The apex court had directed that the election proceedings be held in the presence of the supervisor and videography of the election process for further accountability.

You won the mayor’s seat in 2024
In the 2024 mayor election, after the result of the Chandigarh Mayor election, the BJP candidate was declared the winner, on February 20 last year, the Supreme Court declared AAP’s Kuldeep Kumar as the Mayor of Chandigarh MC. The then presiding officer Anil Christ was caught on camera, invaluating eight ballots in favor of the AAP-Congress alliance.
