AI will create new jobs: Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council member (EACPM) Sanjeev Sanyalaya said on Wednesday that artificial intelligence (AI) will create new jobs and also eliminate many old ones. Sanyal, a functionary of industry body India Chamber of Commerce, claimed that artificial intelligence will take over the highly skilled people and the middlemen’s work will be eliminated. Sanyal said that there is a lot of discussion about AI. A lot will depend on how we approach it. There is a debate going on between the government and the public. It is also true that if we do not adopt it, we will be left behind.
He claimed that the role of existing people in high-skilled sectors would disappear while jobs would be both lost and created. The economist said there is one area where AI will definitely make an impact and that is education.
Giving an example, Sanyal said people will listen to lectures on a video-streaming website and use an AI chatbot for questions and answers. He said this means students will not need to go to college except for some collaborative work. Sanyal also said that through this the curriculum can be updated seamlessly. He said that in such a situation universities would be places only for research and not for giving lectures. A system of authentication can also be created using AI. According to Sanyal, the main issue is how can it be regularized using policy measures?
He said that America has adopted the policy of ‘laisse faire’ for AI i.e. letting things proceed in its own way without any interference, whereas Europe is in favor of control through bureaucracy. Sanyal, co-author of a study paper on these aspects, said the Chinese approach is also on the lines of Europe. He said the adoption of AI would require a regulator to keep an eye on things along with human oversight.(Language)
