The ruling Republican Party has 53 members in the hundred -member Senate. The verdict was tied after 50 votes were cast in favor of Hegseth’s appointment and 50 votes in opposition.

After which Vance voted for the appointment of Hegseth (44) by voting for ‘Tiebreaker’. Hegseth has served in Afghanistan and Iraq War. All 47 members of the Democratic Party voted against the appointment of former Fox News presenter Hegseth. Apart from this, Republican Party members Susan Collins, Lisa Mercosci and Mich McConel also voted in protest.

The confirmation of Friday underlined a significant victory for the Trump administration, which supported him as his candidate despite the lack of experience and allegations against him. Vance has become the second Vice President of America, who used the “Tybreaker” vote to confirm the appointment of a cabinet candidate. Earlier, Mike Pence was the first Vice President to do so in Trump’s previous term to have a decisive voting to confirm the appointment of Education Minister Besty Davos in 2017.
