Washington. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a bilateral meeting with Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and said that President Donald Trump’s administration wants to advance economic ties with India as well as resolve issues related to irregular immigration. Rubio’s spokeswoman gave this information on Tuesday. Rubio (53) first preferred to hold the first bilateral meeting with the Foreign Minister of India, which in a way sent the message that the Trump administration attaches great importance to strengthening relations with India.
He met Jaishankar at the ‘Foggy Bottom’ headquarters of the External Affairs Ministry soon after the ministerial meeting of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad). “Rubio underlined the Trump administration’s desire to advance economic ties with India and address issues related to irregular immigration,” State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said in a statement after the meeting. The spokesperson said the two top diplomats reiterated their shared commitment to strengthening the India-US partnership.
“They discussed a wide range of topics, including regional issues and opportunities to deepen the US-India relationship, including critical and emerging technologies, defense cooperation, energy, and advancing a free and open Indo-Pacific region,” Bruce said. In a post on
Jaishankar said, “Reviewed the comprehensive bilateral partnership of which Rubio has been a strong supporter.” Also shared views on various regional and global issues. Look forward to working closely with them to advance strategic cooperation between the two countries.” Jaishankar has come here on the invitation of the US government to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Donald Trump. Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of America on Monday.
