It marks the Sun’s transit into Capricorn – the end of the winter solstice and the beginning of longer days. The festival is known by different names across India, including Pongal in Tamil Nadu and Bihu in Assam, while in Gujarat it is celebrated as Uttarayan.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel celebrated Makar Sankranti by flying kites on Tuesday. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel gave a glimpse of Shah’s celebration in his social media post. During this, Shah also raised the famous slogan ‘Kay Poche’ which is uttered after cutting the kite. Patel wrote in the post on X that Amit Shah celebrated Makar Sankranti with the local people at Shantiniketan Society in Ahmedabad and wished everyone a happy festival. Society members decorated Shantiniketan Society with beautiful colorful kites and rangoli. The occasion was one of great joy for all. Thanks to the members of the society for the warm welcome.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah laid the foundation stone of Gujarat’s largest police line. 920 families will live in this residential complex which is going to be built for serving police personnel. Launched on the occasion of Makar Sankranti and being implemented by the Gujarat State Police Housing Corporation, the project consists of 18 towers with 13 floors each, spread over an area of 23,697 square meters in the Ghatlodiya area. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel was also present in this ceremony.
