Let us tell you that while addressing a press conference in New Delhi before Army Day, General Upendra Dwivedi also said that the ‘theme’ of moving from terrorism to tourism in Jammu and Kashmir is gradually taking shape.
Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi has said that Pakistan is the ‘centre’ of terrorism and from there the vicious cycle of violence in Jammu and Kashmir is being ‘operated’. This comment of the Army Chief assumes great significance because despite being on the verge of economic poverty, Pakistan has maintained its old policy towards India. This comment of the Army Chief also matters because Pakistan’s own nurtured terrorists are now proving to be Bhasmasur for it, yet it keeps trying to send terrorists to India by training them.
Let us tell you that while addressing a press conference before Army Day, General Upendra Dwivedi also said that the ‘theme’ of moving from terrorism to tourism in Jammu and Kashmir is gradually taking shape. He said the Army has also been allowed to make emergency purchases for counter-terrorism operations. The Army Chief said that the 2021 ‘ceasefire’ with the Pakistani Army on the Line of Control (LOC) continues, but infiltration attempts from Pakistan continue. Let us remind you that in an important step aimed at reducing tensions, Indian and Pakistani armies announced on February 25, 2021 that they will stop firing on the LoC, committing themselves to the 2003 ceasefire agreement.
General Dwivedi said, “The violence in Jammu and Kashmir is being ‘driven’ by Pakistan, the epicenter of terrorism.” There have been many terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir in the last few months. The Army Chief said, 60 percent of the terrorists killed last year were of Pakistani origin. As of today, of those who are left in the (Kashmir) valley and Jammu region, we think about 80 per cent or more are of Pakistan origin.” General Dwivedi, however, stressed that the situation in the Union Territory is ‘complete. Kind of under control. He said the terrorist infrastructure on the Pakistani border remains “intact”. He said terrorist activities have increased in North Kashmir and Doda-Kishtwar region in recent months, but overall violence is under control.
