The body of another laborer trapped in a coal mine in Dima Hasao district of Assam was recovered from the mine during a rescue operation on Saturday. Till now the bodies of two laborers have been recovered. The first body was taken out from the mine on Wednesday. The workers whose bodies were recovered were among the nine who were trapped due to sudden water logging in the mine at Umrangsu on Monday. The Chief Minister gave this information by sharing a post on social media.

Rescue operations to search for the trapped miners resumed in the morning, an official said. The body of another laborer has been recovered on the sixth day of the search. The deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Lijen Magar, resident of village number one of Kalamati, Dima Hasao. The body of a laborer from Nepal has already been recovered. Nine workers were trapped in the mine due to sudden flooding of the mine.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote in a post shared on social media platform X, ‘Rescue work is going on continuously in Umrangsu. Tragically, another body was recovered this morning. We express our condolences to the bereaved with hope and strength in this difficult time. An official engaged in the rescue work said that the work of extracting water from the 340 feet deep mine is going on and now machines brought by ONGC and Coal India are being used for this work. Seven workers are still trapped in the illegal coal mine. However, their chances of survival are very less. Meanwhile, the police has arrested the leader of the workers trapped in the illegal mine. Sardar was absconding after the accident and has been arrested.
