BJP-Congress attack AAP over leaked CAG report, call it model of loot

The BJP and Congress on Saturday intensified their attacks on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) after the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report was leaked to the media, highlighting the flaws in the now defunct Delhi excise policy. The BJP has accused the AAP of not presenting the report in the Assembly to hide its misdeeds, with the Arvind Kejriwal-led party alleging that the findings were made in the saffron party’s office. Addressing a press conference, BJP leader Anurag Thakur said the CAG report had listed 10 major findings about the policy, which was quashed by the AAP government amid the ED and CBI probe. He stressed that former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was arrested in the case and is on bail. They will have to answer the questions raised in the report.

On this issue, Congress leader Sandeep Dixit said, ‘We are already saying that this is a scam government. Earlier Kejriwal used to blame Congress, now he himself is getting trapped. Kejriwal himself should go to jail. It is noteworthy that a CAG report has revealed a revenue loss of Rs 2,026 crore to the exchequer due to alleged irregularities in the implementation of the liquor policy of the Delhi government. Quoting the leaked CAG report, a private media group has claimed that it highlights significant lapses, policy deviations and violations in the issuance of licenses. It also noted that the policy failed to achieve its intended goals and that AAP leaders allegedly benefited from bribes. The report also mentioned that the recommendations of the expert panel were ignored by the Group of Ministers (GoM) led by then Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.

The liquor policy, introduced in November 2021, was aimed at reviving the liquor retail landscape in the national capital and maximizing revenue. However, allegations of corruption and money laundering led to investigations by the ED and CBI. Several top AAP leaders, including then Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, were arrested. However, he was granted bail last year. The CAG report is yet to be presented in the Delhi Assembly.
