The decision to form the SIT has been taken after the claims made by BJP leader Praveen Darekar in the Maharashtra Legislative Council during the winter session in December 2024. Darekar alleged that there was a conspiracy to trap Fadnavis and Shinde and claimed to have audio recording as evidence. Fadnavis, who took over the post of Chief Minister for the third time after the Mahayuti alliance’s election victory in November 2024, served as the Leader of the Opposition during the MVA tenure from November 2019 to June 2022.
