Talking about the history of this seat, it came into existence in 2008 after delimitation. As of 2011, Chhatarpur had a population of around 99,519. It had 53% of the male and 47% of the women’s population. The literacy rate here is 69%. In which male literacy is 75% and female literacy is 62%.
2008 and 2013 election
Earlier, in the 2008 assembly elections, the Congress won this seat for the first time. Congress candidate Balaram Tanwar defeated BJP candidate by about 5 thousand votes. After 2008, the Congress could not win this seat. In the 2013 elections, BJP candidate Brahma Singh Tanwar was elected MLA from Chhatarpur assembly seat. At the same time, Balram Tanwar of Congress was second with around 34 thousand votes. Along with this, AAP candidate Rishi Pal got 22 thousand votes.
2015 election
In the 2015 assembly elections, the AAP party won the Chhatarpur assembly seat. AAP candidate Kartar Singh Tanwar won by securing 67,644 votes. Kartar Singh defeated BJP’s Brahma Singh Tanwar by more than 22 thousand votes. BJP’s Brahma Singh Tanwar got a total of 45,405 votes.
