The Delhi High Court issued notice and sought the stand of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on the plea of Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid seeking bail in the 2017 Jammu and Kashmir terror-funding case. Justice Vikas Mahajan asked the agency to file its reply and listed the matter for further hearing on January 30. Rashid’s lawyer said that 3 months have passed since the order was reserved but the order has not arrived yet. The 3rd session of Parliament has ended and my constituency is not getting representation in Parliament.

Rashid was elected from Baramulla constituency in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and has been lodged in Tihar jail since 2019 after he was arrested by the NIA under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in a 2017 terror-funding case. The NIA and ED cases also include Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba chief and 26/11 Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed, Hizbul Mujahideen leader Syed Salahuddin and others. The ED registered a money laundering case against the accused persons on the basis of an NIA FIR, which accused them of conspiring to wage war against the government and creating trouble in the Kashmir Valley.
