The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) passed a resolution on December 3, 2018, and decided to celebrate January 24 as International Education Day. To make people aware about the importance of education, members of 59 countries united and started celebrating this day. To highlight the importance of education, International Education Day is celebrated every year on 24 January. Many types of events are organized on this day and people are made aware of education.
Why is Education Day celebrated only on 24th January?
January 24 was declared as International Education Day by a resolution passed by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on December 3, 2018. After this, the first International Education Day was celebrated on January 24, 2019. Since then every year 24 January is celebrated as International Education Day. The seventh International Education Day is being celebrated in 2025.

The objectives of this day are important
According to UNESCO, International Education Day has several objectives
1. Reduce disparities in access to and completion of education, in line with SDG 4.
2. Know the voice of the students and let them know about the changes and innovations they want to see to make their education purposeful.
3. It focuses on the changes needed to create a more equitable and inclusive education system. This will accelerate progress towards SDG4.
4. Enhance progress towards digital inclusion, green skills, skills and gender equality.
5.Teachers’ voices will be highlighted on issues ranging from integrating technology into their practice, orienting teaching and learning new skills, etc.
