At least 10 people have been killed and about 32 injured in a massive fire that broke out at a ski resort hotel in northwestern Turkey. The fire broke out around 3:30 a.m. in the restaurant of the 12-story Grand Kartal Hotel in the Kartalakaya resort of Bolu province. The cause of the fire has not been known yet. Governor Abdulaziz Aydin told the state-run Anadolu Agency that two victims died after jumping from the building in panic. Private NTV television said some people tried to climb down from their rooms using sheets and blankets. He told that 234 guests were staying in the hotel.

The ski instructor told the station he couldn’t reach some of his students. I hope they are okay. Television images showed the roof and upper floors of the hotel on fire. The government appointed six prosecutors to lead the investigation into the fire. NTV television suggested that the wooden cladding on the hotel’s exterior, a chalet-style design, may have accelerated the spread of the fire.
