So far, four cases of human metapneumovirus (HMPV) have been reported in Gujarat, with the infection confirmed in a nine-month-old baby in Ahmedabad. Officials gave this information on Saturday. All the cases have been reported in less than a week.
Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation said that the child was admitted to a private hospital in the city on January 6 due to cold, cough and difficulty in breathing. The child has no history of foreign or other travel.
On Friday, an eight-year-old boy from Sabarkantha district was confirmed infected with HMPV. This was the third case of HMPV in the state. Two days ago, viral infection was confirmed in an 80-year-old man in Ahmedabad.
This patient suffering from asthma is currently undergoing treatment in a private hospital. The first case of HMPV in Gujarat was reported on January 6, when a two-month-old baby from Rajasthan was confirmed to have the viral disease.
The child had symptoms like fever, cold and cough. He was discharged after treatment in a hospital here. With the infection confirmed in the child, four cases of HMPV have been reported in the state since January 6.
