How will users benefit from Vodafone Idea’s $3.6 billion deal?

Vodafone Idea Ltd (VIL) has signed a mega deal worth $3.6 billion with Nokia, Ericsson and Samsung for the supply of network equipment over a period of three years. The company said the deal is the first step towards implementing the company’s $6.6 billion three-year capital expenditure plan. This capital expenditure is aimed at expanding 4G coverage from 1.03 billion users to 1.2 billion users, launching 5G in key markets and expanding capacity to keep pace with data growth.

VIL said this contract will enable the company to immediately avail the latest state-of-the-art equipment to provide better customer experience. Additionally, the learnings and insights gained by vendors in the Indian market over the last two years will enable the company to undertake a more flexible and modular rollout plan by customizing services for all advanced technologies (4G and 5G). The new equipment will also bring energy efficiency gains and thus reduce operating costs.

Akshay Mundra, Chief Executive Officer, Vodafone Idea Limited, said, “We are committed to investing in emerging network technologies to provide the best experience to our customers. We have started the investment cycle. We are on our journey to VIL 2.0 and from here VIL will make a smart transformation to effectively participate in the growth opportunities of the industry. Nokia and Ericsson have been our partners since the beginning and this is another milestone in that continued partnership. We are delighted to launch our new partnership with Samsung. We look forward to working closely with all of our partners as we move into the 5G era. input agencies
