DK Shivakumar said let’s try our best and leave the results to God. I don’t need anyone’s support, I will work as a party. He told the people that no one should insist on his behalf.

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Saturday said the people of Karnataka have blessed the Congress for five years and he and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will continue to work as per the instructions of the party high command. On his supporters calling him the ‘next Chief Minister’, Shivakumar said he does not need anyone’s support and will follow whatever the party tells him. Shivkumar also has the responsibility of State Congress President.

DK Shivakumar said let’s try our best and leave the results to God. I don’t need anyone’s support, I will work as a party. He told the people that no one should insist on his behalf. I don’t need anyone’s support. No MLA should support me in this matter. My Congress party is. I will do whatever the party leaders have said. He said that MLAs and workers should not shout on my behalf. I will do my duty.

His comments come a day after his cabinet colleague and Siddaramaiah close KN Rajanna suggested that Shivakumar should lead the party successfully in the next elections instead of aspiring for the top post during the remaining two-and-a-half years of the current government. One should aim to become the Chief Minister by leading. Speculations about a possible change in leadership in Karnataka have created a stir within the Congress, following Siddaramaiah’s recent dinner with select Dalit and Scheduled Tribe (ST) cabinet colleagues. There are rumors of a “rotational chief minister” or “power-sharing” formula being implemented after March.
