Mirwaiz was scheduled to meet Pal at his residence. A brief statement issued by Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU), headed by Mirwaiz, said that the delegation would raise strong objections to some provisions of the bill, which will have far-reaching impact on management and autonomy.
Kashmir’s religious head Mirwaiz Umar Farooq will appear before the parliamentary panel on the Waqf Amendment Bill on Friday and will reveal his objections about the draft law. The Joint Committee on the Waqf Amendment Bill headed by BJP leader Jagdambika Pal also postponed its discussion on the section-by-block view of the draft law after the objections expressed by the opposition leaders. The committee will now consider this bill in detail on Monday. Apart from Mirwaiz, the committee is also going to listen to the views of Lawyers for Justice Group on Friday. The revised program of the committee was broadcast late Thursday night.
Earlier, Mirwaiz was scheduled to meet Pal at his residence. A brief statement issued by Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU) headed by Mirwaiz said that the delegation would raise strong objections to some provisions of the bill, which will have far-reaching impact on management and autonomy. This is the first time that Mirwaiz, who is also headed by the almost expired separatist group Hurriyat Conference, has stepped out of the Kashmir Valley after canceling the special status of the east state of Jammu and Kashmir.
