Each team was allocated a total budget of Rs 120 crore to field a squad of minimum 18 players and maximum 25 players for IPL 2025. A maximum of eight foreign players were allowed in each team.

Sports Desk, Indore. The two-day auction in Jeddah for IPL 2025 was historic. The 10 franchises spent a total of Rs 639.15 crore. A total of 182 players were bought by the teams in the mega auction, while 395 players remained unsold.
The minimum base price of a player in the IPL 2025 mega auction was Rs 30 lakh, while the maximum base price was Rs 2 crore. Lucknow Super Giants created history and bought Rishabh Pant for Rs 27 crore in the IPL 2025 auction. In this way this wicketkeeper batsman became the most expensive player in IPL history till date.
Earlier, Punjab Kings spent Rs 26.75 crore for Shreyas Iyer, which made him hold this record for some time.

Rishabh Pant: Delhi Capitals released their captain Rishabh Pant ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. The star wicketkeeper-batsman fetches a record amount in Jeddah. He was bought by Lucknow Super Giants for a record fee of Rs 27 crore, making him the most expensive purchase in IPL history.
Shreyas Iyer: Iyer impressed everyone after leading Kolkata Knight Riders to the title in IPL 2024. However, he decided to test his worth in the mega auction and KKR released him. Iyer is now a part of Punjab Kings as the franchise acquired his services for a huge sum of Rs 26.75 crore.
Venkatesh Iyer: Venkatesh Iyer has been with KKR since 2021, but he was released ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. The defending champions rewarded him handsomely and bought him again for a huge sum of Rs 23.75 crore.
Arshdeep Singh: Arshdeep Singh is now the fourth highest paid Indian player in the IPL. He was retained by Punjab Kings at a price of Rs 18 crore. The star fast bowler has been with Punjab since 2019 and his value increased after being a part of India’s title-winning campaign at the T20 World Cup 2024 earlier this year.
Yuzvendra Chahal: After being released by Rajasthan Royals after three seasons, Chahal is now the fifth most expensive Indian player and the most expensive Indian spinner in the IPL. He was bought by Punjab Kings for a huge price of Rs 18 crore. Chahal is the IPL’s all-time leading wicket-taker with 205 wickets in 160 matches.
