The framework of the agreement includes the release of hostages and prisoners, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from populated areas, and the resumption of humanitarian aid operations.

Hamas attack
Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, killing 1,200 people and taking 250 others hostage. Israel then retaliated, killing more than 46,000 Palestinians, according to Palestinian health officials. Additionally, an estimated 90 percent of Gaza’s population was displaced, creating a humanitarian crisis. More than 100 hostages were released from Gaza during a week-long ceasefire in November 2023.
