The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) examining the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 adopted all the amendments proposed by the ruling BJP-led NDA members and rejected every change moved by the opposition members in a clause-by-clause discussion. The JPC announced that the draft report would be circulated until 28 January and then formally adopted on 29 January. Opposition MPs criticized the proceedings of the meeting and accused Pal of distorting the democratic process. TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee told reporters that it was a ridiculous exercise. Our views were not heard. Pal has acted in a dictatorial manner.
