Some rules and regulations are needed for the functioning of any civilized society. In a democratic system, this is arranged through the constitution. The Constitution is a document made to run the governance system and state of any country. Calligraphers like Prem Bihari Narayan Raizada had enhanced it with their pens. But this task, though difficult, was easy compared to the work that those who conceived this Constitution and put it into writing had done by spending three years in the Constituent Assembly. Because that imagination was not just about a book. It was like a picture of a new country. Of a new understanding and a new culture that had never been seen before in this world.

Buddha preaching peace, from Tipu Sultan to Akbar
We all swear by this Constitution a lot, or hear people swearing by it. But have you seen the Constitution? Suppose you have ever seen it in photos etc. So one thing we can know for sure is that the original copy of the Constitution contains many hand-drawn drawings. There is a story about this also. What happened was that the Indian Constitution was being drafted. At the same time, when Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar presented its draft, there was a discussion on the depiction of pictures in the original copy of the Constitution according to the subjects. Jawahar Lal Nehru once visited Shanti Niketan. There he met the painter Nandlal Bose. Nehru ji urged him that the Constitution book was being prepared. Decorate it with your painting. In four years, Bose and his students created a total of 22 paintings and illustrations. Through which all the 22 chapters of the Constitution were decorated. In this way the entire culture of India was included in the original book of the Constitution. The first picture is of India’s national symbol Ashoka. Nataraja and Shri Krishna are also seen inside. There is also a Yagyashaala of Buddha preaching peace and sages performing Yagya. You will find pictures of the lotus to the Ganga coming from heaven in the Constitution. You will find pictures of Rani Laxmibai, Guru Gobind Singh, Tipu Sultan and Akbar in the Constitution. You will see the things found from the excavation of Harappa, lions and horses, all these in the book of the Constitution.
Picture of Shri Ram, Sita and Lakshman ji in Part 3 of Fundamental Rights
When the Constitution of India was adopted in 1950, on the top cover it is written Constitution of India and at the bottom there is a picture of Ram Darbar in which Ram is sitting. And there is a picture of Lakshman ji. Part 3 of the Constitution discusses our fundamental rights. There are pictures of Shri Ram, Sita and Lakshman ji. In the representative illustration of Part 3 of the Constitution, where fundamental rights have been found, Shri Ram, Sita and Lakshman are depicted and this incident is of the time when they return to Ayodhya after the victory of Lanka. Think! When it came to fundamental rights, returning home became a big synonym for them. Returning to one’s home fulfills the three major needs of a roof over one’s head, a place to support one’s family, and security. This basic need of food, clothing and shelter is not only the wish of man but is also the test of the Constitution. Ram’s coming home means the citizens of this country are promised to get a home and stay safe.
