Russia has welcomed US President-elect Donald Trump’s desire to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin. A senior Russian official gave this information on Friday.
Russian presidential office Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Russia has no conditions for the possibility of face-to-face talks. Trump said on Thursday, “Putin wants to meet and preparations are being made for a meeting.”
He indicated that behind the proposals for talks were efforts to end the nearly three-year-long war between Russia and Ukraine. “We have to end that war,” Trump said, referring to his expected meeting with Putin.
Trump has criticized US aid in the Ukraine war. He said Putin used a “very smart” strategy in invading Ukraine and praised Russia’s military record in historical conflicts.
Putin has been accused of war crimes by the International Criminal Court.Or is. “We know that the (Biden) administration will try to leave as difficult a legacy as possible for Trump and his team in bilateral relations,” Peskov said.
