The Center on Saturday announced the list of Padma Awards 2025 recipients on the eve of Republic Day. Jonas Masetti, a Brazilian Hindu spiritual leader, and Hugh and Colleen Gantzer, a couple famous for writing about India’s heritage, are among those honored with the Padma Shri. Devotional singer Bheru Singh Chauhan, journalist Bhim Singh Bhavesh, novelist Jagdish Joshila, cervical cancer doctor Neerja Bhatla and Kuwaiti yoga practitioner Sheikha AJ Al Sabah are also among the Padma Shri awardees.
Padma awards, among the country’s highest civilian honours, are presented in three categories – Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. The Home Ministry said that the names of 100-year-old freedom fighter Libya Lobo Sardesai of Goa and Dhak player Gokul Chandra Das of West Bengal are also included in the list of those awarded Padma Shri. Kuwait’s yoga practitioner Sheikha AJ Al Sabah and travel blogger couple Hugh and Colleen Gantzer from Uttarakhand will be honored with the Padma Shri.
Fruit farmer L Hangthing from Nagaland and musician P Datchanamurthy from Puducherry will also be honored with the Padma Shri. It has been announced to give Padma Shri to Madhya Pradesh’s social entrepreneur Sally Holkar and Marathi writer Maruti Bhujangrao Chitampalli.
