The Madras High Court has set all cases related to Thiruparnakundram hill in Madurai district of Tamil Nadu on 4 February for hearing. The petition emphasized the cultural and historical significance of the Thiruparnakundram Temple, which was created during the Pandya Yuga. It highlighted the presence of Umayander Cave Temple and 11 holy ponds in the southern part of the temple, stating that no animal sacrifice or non -vegetarian food should be allowed within the temple complex. Kannan’s petition stated that in January 2024, goats and chickens were allegedly sacrificed at the Dargah as part of rituals and communal feasts, which led to deep resentment to the devotees of Subramanian Swamy Temple.
The petition also criticized Thiruparnakundram Hill as Alexander Hill, describing it as a possible source of communal discord. Such actions are likely to instigate communal tension.
