An under-construction building at Kannauj railway station in Uttar Pradesh collapsed on Friday, burying dozens of workers under the debris. The incident occurred when work was underway on a two-storey building as part of a beautification project at the station. About 35 employees were present at the spot at the time of the accident. The rescue operation led by railway, police and administrative officials has so far rescued 23 workers from the debris.

Railway Board member Satyendra Pratap Singh said that under the Railways’ Amrit Bharat Scheme, three stations were selected today, which includes Kannauj. A linter has fallen here under construction. The administration immediately swung into action and officials from all areas and local people also carried out rescue operations. Further investigation is underway. District Magistrate (DM) Shubhrant Kumar Shukla said that as per preliminary information, the incident occurred when the shuttering of the roof under construction fell.”
He said that our first priority is to rescue the stranded workers. We are using all resources at our disposal for rescue efforts. The state government has announced a compensation of Rs 50,000 to those seriously injured and Rs 5,000 to those with minor injuries. North Eastern Railway said that relief and rescue operations are going on war footing. Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said that very sad information was received about the casualties of many people in the accident due to the accident of the passenger waiting room under construction at Kannauj Railway Station.

He said that the Uttar Pradesh government has given instructions to the local administration for immediate relief and rescue work and I have given instructions to the health department officials for proper treatment of the injured.
