Patna. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary said that since the time of Jan Sangh, BJP supported Karpoori Thakur’s decision of giving reservation to backward and extremely backward communities and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government honored Jananayak by awarding him Bharat Ratna.
Before participating in the program organized in Karpoori Thakur’s 101st birth anniversary in his village yesterday, Chaudhary said that in 1978, Karpoori Thakur’s government had given 12 percent reservation to the backward classes and 8 percent to the backward classes. Kailashpati Mishra, a senior leader of Jan Sangh (now BJP), who was in the government at that time, had supported Karpuri ji.

He said that Lalu Prasad, who tried to snatch the credit for Jannayak’s work on reservation, had conducted Panchayat elections without giving reservation during his 15-year rule, whereas Nitish Kumar gave reservation to Dalits, backward classes and women in Panchayats. Even at that time BJP was included in the government and late Sushil Kumar Modi was the Deputy Chief Minister.

Deputy Chief Minister Chaudhary said that the BJP and NDA governments follow the ideals of Karpoori ji, while the opposition only does politics in his name. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister of Bihar, Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan along with Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary will also attend the special program organized at Karpuri Thakur’s village in Samastipur.
