Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said here on Thursday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 98th All India Marathi Sahitya Sammelan to be held here from 21 to 23 February.
Fadnavis made these comments after the inauguration of the camp office of All India Marathi Sahitya Sammelan at the old Maharashtra Sadan here. He said that the Prime Minister has agreed to inaugurate the annual conference, which is being held in the national capital for the first time after the creation of the state of Maharashtra in 1960.
This annual conference of Marathi litterateurs from all over the world was last held in Delhi in 1954 and was the president of the famous Sanskrit scholar Laxman Shastri Joshi Sammelan at that time.
The conference was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Writer and folk culture researcher Tara Bhawalkar has been elected president of the 98th edition of the conference, who is the sixth woman to hold the post.
During the period of the conference, the Talkatora Stadium will be named Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Sahitya Nagari and the auditorium in which the conference will be held will be named after Babasaheb Ambedkar.
More than 5,000 literature lovers are expected to participate in the conference. The two entrances of the conference site will be named after Lokmanya Tilak and Yashwantrao Chavan.
