Sri Lankan Navy personnel have also fired on Indian fishermen in the Palk Strait and seized their boats in several alleged incidents of illegal transgression into Sri Lankan waters.

41 Indian fishermen detained by the Sri Lankan Navy have been sent back home by the Sri Lankan authorities. The Indian Mission gave this information on Wednesday. Fishermen from both countries are often arrested for unknowingly entering each other’s territorial waters.

Indian High Commission here on ‘X’ said, “41 Indian fishermen were successfully brought back from Sri Lanka! They have left for their respective homes.” The fishermen issue is a contentious issue in relations between India and Sri Lanka, with Sri Lankan naval personnel also firing on Indian fishermen in the Palk Strait and illegal fishing in Sri Lankan waters. Their boats have been seized in several alleged incidents of illegal trespassing.
