Bengaluru. Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is set to significantly increase fares citing increase in operating costs. According to BMRCL sources, this increase will be between 30 to 40 percent. This decision has been taken soon after the state transport department increased the bus fares of all categories by 15 percent. “The BMRCL board has almost approved the fare hike and in all likelihood the revised fare will be implemented this month itself,” a BMRCL official told PTI.
According to him, there has been a huge increase in operating costs, due to which the board had to take this decision. “We get funding from various agencies and financial institutions and we have to repay those loans,” the official said. Therefore, salary hike is inevitable. He also said that BMRCL is not funded by the state government.
