Side Effects Of Mobile
The Consumer Affairs Ministry will issue guidelines next month to deal with unsolicited commercial communications or unwanted calls. A senior official gave this information on Tuesday. Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare said the department has drafted guidelines after consultation with stakeholders which will be made consistent with the upcoming rules of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
“We are ready with draft guidelines on unsolicited phone calls,” Khare told reporters on the sidelines of National Consumer Day celebrations. We will make it consistent with TRAI norms and release it next month.”
TRAI Chairman Anil Kumar Lahoti, who was present at the event, said the consumer ministry is focusing on guidelines related to roles, responsibilities and conduct of business entities while the telecom regulator will separately issue strict norms in response to rising consumer complaints.
The initiative is a collaboration of a joint committee of regulators led by TRAI. This committee has decided to strengthen the existing framework to protect consumer interests. Actually, mobile consumers often face a lot of trouble due to unwanted calls. These include telemarketing and promotional calls. (Language)
