Naidunia Representative, Indore: The fireworks of runs in cricket for which T-20 cricket is popular was seen in the Mushtaq Ali Trophy in Indore on Wednesday. No one had thought that the history of stormy batting was going to be created in the house of Mushtaq Ali, who had introduced fast-paced batting in cricket.

record of fastest century

Here there was a match between Gujarat and Tripura and unknown batsman Urvil Patel was standing at the crease. Urvil started swinging the bat as soon as he arrived and the ball kept crossing the boundary here and there. The bat kept rotating and their names kept getting recorded one after another in the history book.

Urvil completed his century in just 28 balls and became the fastest Indian to score a century in T-20 cricket. He also became the second batsman in the world in terms of fastest century. The record of the fastest century is in the name of Sahil Chauhan of Estonia, who achieved this feat in 27 balls.

Chris Gayle also behind Urvil

West Indies’ Chris Gayle’s name also figures in the list of most dangerous batsmen in T-20 cricket. But in the matter of fastest century, Gayle is also seen standing behind Urvil. Veteran Caribbean batsman Chris Gayle is at third place in this list, who while batting for RCB in IPL, completed a century in 30 balls against Pune Warriors.

Earlier, the record of fastest T-20 century for India was in the name of Rishabh Pant, who while batting for Delhi, scored a century in 32 balls against Himachal Pradesh. Even then the tournament was still Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Added 150 runs for the first wicket

Batting first, Tripura scored 155 runs for eight wickets in the Group-B match of Mushtaq Ali Trophy at Emerald Heights School ground in Indore. In reply, Gujarat team achieved this target by losing two wickets in just 10.2 overs. Urvil, who came to start the innings, along with Arya Desai added 150 runs in 8.5 overs for the first wicket.

Arya’s contribution in this was only 38 runs. Murasingh broke this partnership by dismissing Desai. Vishal Jaiswal could not even open the account and Parvez Sultan sent him to the pavilion. After this, Urvil and Umang Kumar (one run not out) completed the formalities of victory.

Urvil played an impeccable innings at the other end. He returned after making his team win by hitting seven fours and 12 sixes in his unbeaten innings of 113 runs on just 35 balls.

Record was made in ODI exactly a year ago

It was an interesting coincidence that Urvil had registered his name in the ODI record book exactly a year ago. He scored a century on 41 balls against Arunachal Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy ODI tournament on 27 November last year. With this, he became second among the Indians who scored the fastest century in List-A matches. Ahead of him is Yusuf Pathan, who scored a century in 40 balls.

No buyer found in IPL

Urvil’s name was in the list of uncapped wicketkeepers in the mega auction of IPL 2025. But his name could not appear in the auction.
