Warmth is once again being seen in the relations between India and China. On one hand, India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing. Now Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will visit China at the end of this month to hold talks with the Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister. Misri’s visit will focus on resuming visas, direct flights and strengthening economic ties after a major breakthrough in border disengagement at the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The visit is a continuation of recent efforts to reduce tensions between the two neighbours.

military patrol agreement
Both countries have made significant progress in reducing tensions along their disputed border in the Ladakh region. In October 2024, both countries agreed to an agreement related to military patrolling along the LAC. In a major development in the India-China border issue, Chinese troops retreated from Y Junction and Depsang area of Raki Nala in Ladakh. Ajit Doval and Wang Yi met in St. Petersburg, Russia on September 12. It is believed that during this meeting, the framework for the disengagement on LAC in October was prepared.

NSA Doval’s visit to China
Ajit Doval had visited China on December 17 to participate in the India-China Special Representatives talks. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval had met in Beijing in December last year to discuss the long-running border dispute. He stressed the need to maintain peace along the disputed border and promised to find a fair and mutually agreeable solution. Earlier in August 2019, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had visited China. But since then the Galwan violence had soured relations.
Modi-Xi meeting in Kazan
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi held bilateral talks on the sidelines of the Kazan summit of BRICS countries. After this, discussions were held at the level of Foreign Minister and Special Representative.
