Work is going on on Waqf Bill, results will come soon, Law Minister also said a big thing on One Nation-One Election

Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on Tuesday said work on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill is going on at a good pace and positive results will emerge soon. Presently this bill is with the Joint Parliamentary Committee. Speaking at an event organized by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)-affiliated magazine “Panchjanya”, Meghwal declined to comment on the Places of Worship Act as “subject to the court”, saying that if the Supreme Court asks the Center to file an affidavit, If asked for, he will file an affidavit which will be in the national interest.

Responding to a question on the Waqf Bill, the minister said the Narendra Modi government took a ‘big decision’ and brought the bill, which was passed by the Union Cabinet. He said that when the bill was introduced, there was a demand that it should go to a committee, hence the JPC was formed. Meetings are being held, field visits have also been done and the work is going on at a good pace. You cannot say that the process is slow. Meghwal said Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju had talked about the government’s sentiments when the bill was introduced.
“There is no need for any doubt. Very soon you will see positive results in Parliament,” he said. Asked if there were any plans to change the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, Meghwal said, “I am the law minister, the matter is sub-judice in the Supreme Court, I cannot comment on it.” He said that whatever decision will be taken, if an affidavit or anything else is asked from the government, then action will be taken in the national interest.

On ‘One Nation, One Election’, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said that the bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha during the winter session on December 17, 2024. The bill has been sent to JPC. The first meeting took place on 8 January. We will bring it up for discussion after the JPC completes its work. Meghwal also criticized the opposition parties for spreading “fake propaganda” during the Lok Sabha elections last year that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would change the Constitution if voted to power again.
