Asif Nazrul has said that if India rejects the demand for extradition of Sheikh Hasina. So doing so would be against the extradition treaty. From this it will be assumed that India has acted to end the extradition treaty. Giving information, he said that we have written a letter in which Sheikh Hasina’s extradition has been demanded. If India does not extradite Sheikh Hasina, it will send a clear message that it has violated the extradition treaty which was already signed between India and Bangladesh.
The tension between India and Bangladesh is not showing any signs of decreasing. On one hand, Dhaka is trying to create tension regarding the fencing on the borders of India and Bangladesh. The interim government of Bangladesh is not desisting from commenting against India. Many advisors of the interim government of Bangladesh are making headlines across Bangladesh for their anti-India statements. Now another statement has come out in the manner of threatening India. Law Advisor of the interim government, Asif Nazrul, has said that if India rejects the demand for Sheikh Hasina’s extradition.
He says that if India does this then it will be forced to take further steps related to this. He said that the Ministry of External Affairs is looking into this entire matter. It will be decided how to proceed further on this issue and how to work within the international community. Not only this, he says that efforts are also being made by the Ministry of External Affairs to issue a red alert regarding Sheikh Hasina. He says that everything is being done from his side to make Sheikh Hasina accountable. The government is making every effort to bring Sheikh Hasina back to Bangladesh. If there is a need to take international steps for this, Bangladesh will not shy away from taking that step. Hasina’s government and the then PM are clearly responsible for the mass killing that took place in July. Prosecution will be initiated against them.
The Legal Advisor said that the Ministry of External Affairs is also making efforts and a red alert has already been issued. Nazrul said that we are doing everything we can. The government will continue all efforts to bring back Sheikh Hasina. If necessary, international support will be sought. According to the provisions of the India-Bangladesh Extradition Treaty, extradition can be refused if the crimes are of political character. Another provision states that a person cannot be extradited unless he has been sentenced to imprisonment or other form of detention for a term of four months or more.
